Final Thoughts

The Audi of the toothbrush world: reliable, well-engineered, not over-spec'd and even a little bit classy. And good value when on offer.

Philips have an excellent reputation for reliable, high-performance electric toothbrushes, so I was interested in testing this toothbrush particularly as I already have a Philips DiamondClean which is more expensive and a higher spec.

Despite thinking that this would be the poor relation, my first impressions were good.  I like the style – it’s got a matte handle so the plastic has a good quality feel and it’s not slippery when wet so gives a better grip.  The navy blue colour of my toothbrush is smart and distinctive – even classy.  It’s available in a range of different colours. so that’s also a plus point if you’ve got a couple of different users in the house.

Compared to the DiamondClean electric toothbrush, it’s a simpler beast. It has significantly fewer features and modes but to be honest, that suits me fine.  The Diamond Clean is probably too complicated, and the Philips Sonicare 4300 still provides an excellent clean.

The battery life is very good.  It lasted just under 3 weeks before I had to charge it which is actually better than my DiamondClean toothbrush and many other brands of electric toothbrush. It’s got a lowish buzz, so isn’t offensive or migraine-inducing and it feels substantial in the hand. I’m confident that it cleans my teeth well.  I particularly like the pressure sensor as it stops me from doing what my dentist tells me off about: pressing too hard around the gum area & causing receding gums or gingivitis.

Anyway – drawbacks?

Some people have moaned that the replacement heads are expensive for this model, but you can pick up compatible ones from Amazon here,  £8.99 for 8 brush heads at time of reviewing, so I don’t think that’s an issue.  Even though it comes with a travel case, I wouldn’t want to pack it when I’m flying as it’s not the best lightweight toothbrush.  It’s an excellent, every day model which will give you a very good clean for your money.

Also available in Smart Black,  Pastel Pink and Light Blue
